We have a fairly consistent routine in the evening. After dinner, Tara, Theory and I take a bath together. I put her in her pajamas, we read some books, and it is off to bed. Like an old couple we get to bed early – partly because we are all just tired and partly because I get up at 5 and hence Tara get’s up at 6.

Our bed keeps shrinking. It is a queen sized bed. In New York, it was perfectly large and comfortable for us. Then Theory came. As per our plan we were transitioning Theory out of the bed by having her sleep on her own bed next to ours (her crib mattress).
Things were going pretty well.
Then Tara got pregnant. The bed shrank a little. No big deal as Theory was spending more of the night in her own bed.

Theory is now 19 months old. Over the last two months in particular, her verbal skills have just exploded. She has a massive vocabulary and includes everything from hippo to lizard to hawk. We love to read books about animals – some of our favorites being Beetles and Bugs by Maurice Pledger and Creature ABC by Andrew Zuckerman. Another favorite is Gone Wild.
But the funniest things are her expressions.
“Awesome” she declares and gives you a high-five. Or she tells you to “Wait” while she fetches something. …

In a few weeks Tara and I will be having another child. Our birth pool is back in our possession after being loaned out to several friends, both other than that everything will be different. To begin with, we have relocated to San Rafael, in Marin, just north of San Francisco. We have moved from our sleek Manhattan apartment to a suburban house with views of Mt Tam and the scent of pine and redwood. It is new territory with us and we are busy getting settled – …
