Trip To LA LA Land

Tara and I took Theory to Los Angeles this past week. It was both Tara’ birthday and my mom’s birthday. My father bought Tara the ticket to come out as a birthday gift. It was the time to visit before digging in my heels at work.
For many people in the family, it was the first time they saw Theory. For Theory, it was the first opportunity to play with her cousins and second-cousins.
The week was terrific. The weather in Los Angeles was perfect and we were able to just about visit everyone who we wanted to see. We visited the Getty Villa in Malibu. Went to the park. Visited with friends.

Tara and my mom spent a morning at the spa. We had brunch for my mom’s birthday at the Getty Museum with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece.

We went out for dinner to Laques on Melrose and had a fabulous meal. Theory was very happy with the wine - Hocus Pocus. The meal rocked. I had the duck breast and Tara had a tomato salad that was to die for.

It was a bittersweet departure. It felt good to get home and our familiar apartment. But there is a part of me that would like to live in LA. Yes it is partly the weather. But mostly it is having friends and family there as part of our daily lives. There is a lot about LA that I also don’t like. The traffic. The crappy urban planning, if you can call it that…
For now, we are staying in New York.

It was a wonderful treat to have Ari, Tara and sweet Theory visiting our great city (urban planning not withstanding). It was particularly sweet to have them sleeping at our home for the 1st 3 nights.
It’s not just the weather that makes “LA The Place” to coin a 1980’s phrase. Just as New York have a certain energy LA also has a destinctive vibe. People who track these trends call LA a 21st Century City. Probably because of the hugh influx of non-white and non- native residents (both legal and illegal). This cultural mix adds a certain flavor to this large, spraling and seemingly endless city.
However, back to family issues. Lois and I share three children who live in New York and Boston. So we are always travling to one of these cities to visit our children and our grandchildren. So to have them come to our home is a special treat.
This Thanksgiving Lois’ two children and their families will be in LA. This is the first time in well over a decade that Lois has her family together on this special holiday. Their presence plus Edna, my wonderful mother-in-law, will make this a very special Thanksgiving holiday.
So we hope that Ari, Tara and Theory will come back to the land of fruits and nuts real soon. We already miss them soo much.
