I am a California transplant to NY, with a partner, Tara, and a daughter, Theory.

Tara and I are a typical city couple. We live downtown in a loft conversion, have a city dog named Jasmine, work our asses off, and wonder how we are going to navigate the big city with our baby.

A doula by profession, Tara has a company called Power of Birth. She has attended hundreds of births so the territory is not unfamiliar to her.  Well, at least until the 3-month mark.  Since then it has been uncharted territory.  I think it gave me a better sense of what to expect for the birth, having read many of her birth-related books and seen many films. Needless to say, it is a different experience when you are going through it yourself. So it is an adventure for both of us.
